The Barnard General Store Is Open Again!
On behalf of all the people of Barnard and other supporters, the Barnard Community Trust closed on the real estate purchase and now owns the Barnard General Store.
The terms of the purchase was as follows: the purchase price was $500,000.00. At closing, the BCT paid $300,000.00 with Bill Twigg-Smith taking back a mortgage for $200,000.00 to be paid of in one year. This gave the BCT immediate ownership of the property. It also means that the trust must still raise money to pay off the mortgage and for improvements and other expenses for the building.
From the beginning of this effort The Barnard Community Trust has worked closely with the Preservation Trust of Vermont. Their experience and guidance have been invaluable to us. We could not have accomplished this task without their help.
The BCT could also not have suceeded in this monumental task without the help of donors of money, large and small, volunteers of time and services and donors of goods for our morning café at the store. Morning coffee and goodies and newspapers will continue to be available at the store until further notice. Thanks to all who helped to make this happen. Click to read the full article on our Blog
Our work is not done. Your generous support is still needed to make the deal complete and secure the future of our general store.
