Hi everyone! Just in case some of you have not noticed, a beautiful oil painting by Michael McGovern has been donated in an effort to raise money for Steve Johnson. The painting is on display near the wood stove at the store. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. The drawing will be held this Friday. Come in and check it out. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to Steve thus far- whether it was online through the GoFundMe page, in the jar at the store, through Helping Hands or through this raffle. We really do live in an amazing town that always comes together for a neighbor in need.

It has been a really hard week for so many of us here in Barnard. As you may have heard, Steve Johnson, a volunteer firefighter and one of the most well-liked men here in Barnard, suffered a heart attack on Monday, May 1st at the young age of 39. Although he has made progress in the hospital this past week, he is still fighting and has a long road ahead of him.  I've grown to know Steve over the past four years of owning the store. Never once have I seen him walk into the store without a smile on his face. When I desperately needed someone last minute to help with cooking all the food at our last annual street dance, I went to Steve and he got the entire fire dept to help out. When I had no idea how on earth I was going to get our new 500lb oven into our bakery this past November, I went to Steve and he was here the next day with a tractor and a crew of guys to get the oven inside and set up. Not to mention- he also does all of the plowing for the store, the post office, and countless residences here in Barnard. I'm pretty sure almost everyone in this town has stories like this about Steve. He is truly one of the most genuinely nice guys not only in Barnard, but that I have ever met. He is a selfless man who would do anything for anyone... and now he needs our help. Below is a link to a GoFundMe page for Steve. If at all possible, please consider making a donation to help Steve, his wife Meg, and his two beautiful young daughters during this extremely difficult time. There is also a donation jar at the Barnard General Store and Helping Hands is accepting tax-deductible donations on his behalf. Checks can be written and mailed to Barnard Helping Hands, PO Box 888 Barnard VT 05031 or dropped off here at the store. Please be sure to write Steve's name in the memo line of the check. Thank you everyone for your thoughts, well wishes, and donations.  We're all pulling for you, Steve. Keep fighting.  Link to donation page:

Giving credit where credit is due!!! If you read the recent article about the BGS in Yankee Magazine, it was mentioned that we are known for not only our pancakes, but our homemade crumb cake as well. However, the article stated that it is my grandmother's recipe. Well, it is actually my MOTHER'S recipe and she is famous for it amongst our friends and family! Sorry, Ma! Barnard appreciates you and your crumb cake recipe!
